Welcome! EMPR200
Hi, my name is Drew Barden and I am a 2nd year Commerce student here at Queen’s. I decided to take Work and Employment Relations in Canada as I believe the knowledge I acquire throughout the semester will enhance my success in the business field. I am especially interested in employment law and regualtions that exist in the field. I hope that through this course I will have the opportunity to learn more on this subject. As an individual I really enjoy travelling and hiking. In the future I would really enjoy working in the field of real estate. I am looking forward to the semester and everything we will be learning!

Hi Drew! My name is Michelle. I am also very interested in employment law and regulations. Just last semester, I took EMPR 210 which is a great introductory course to the basics of employment law. Seeing as you are a commerce student, is there any course content that you see may be overlapping with your degree? I look forward to hearing back from you!

Hi Michelle! I do find there is a small amount of overlap between my Human Resources class and EMPR200. I find they touch on the same topics; however, approach these topics from different backgrounds. Human Resources focuses strongly on the interactions between individuals and resolving these issues whereas EMPR200 looks at ordeals fairly legislatively. I would love to take EMPR210 in the future! In the last few weeks have you found that EMPR200 is building on top of EMPR210?

Hi Drew! I am also a business student and am looking forward to enhancing my knowledge in this regard as well. You mentioned you love traveling and hiking, what would you say was your all-time favorite destination for a trip or hike? I’m always interested in hearing about other people’s traveling experiences and adding destinations to my bucket list!

Hi Nolan! I would personally say some of the best hikes I’ve completed are right here in Canada! The Canadian Rockies is full of challenging yet rewarding hikes that you should most definitely try and without a doubt you should add it to your bucket list. You won’t regret it!

Hey Drew! It’s amazing to hear about your passion for Real-Estate, I as well hold great interest for it as well. I am currently involved in the Queen’s Real Estate Association based out of the commerce society at Smith School of Business, have you ever heard of it? Hey Jack! I have heard of the Queen’s Real Estate Association! I think it’s amazing that Smith offers so many different types of clubs! I have indeed applied to the Queens Real Estate Investment Conference. I really hope I have the opportunity to go. What kind of real estate are you interested in? Hi Drew! I may not be in commerce, but I am currently taking the business certificate. I pretty much took this course for the same reason as you did, plus I loved the EMPR course I took during first year. I also love travelling and have been lucky enough to explore many different countries around the world. I personally don’t really have any interest in Real – Estate, but I have considered something to do with law after i’m done my bachelor.

Wow, that sounds awesome! I enjoy hearing of students from other faculties taking the business certificate! I think it is such an amazing certificate for Queen’s to offer. Have you enjoyed the business courses so far? Law is definitely an interesting discipline and is a pathway I have spent a considerable amount of thinking about!
